Packing List

Laurel Music Camp is hosted at Camp Mattatuck, which provides us with cots, tents, and the facilities that we will use to host rehearsals and meals throughout the week. Below are items required to have a complete and comfortable week at camp:

  • Sleeping bags and/or bedding
    • It can get colder at night depending on the weather. Please pack accordingly.
  • A pillow
  • Clothes for warm and cold weather
  • Shoes appropriate for walking in the woods – shoes must be closed toed AND slip-resistant. We recommend bringing at least two pairs of shoes in case one pair gets wet.
  • Flip flops or shower shoes – these are to only be worn in the shower as they are NOT safe on trails!
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Towels
  • Rain coat or poncho (and umbrella if wanted)
  • Personal grooming items (toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, etc.)
  • Bag/caddy for the showers – individual stalls have hooks/benches to keep items dry
  • Bathing suit
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle (available for purchase at the camp store)
  • Mosquito net – This is optional and can also be purchased at Camp Mattatuck’s Trading Post any time during the week.
  • Rope for clothesline
  • Instrument for primary ensemble
  • Additional instruments for chamber and/or reclective ensembles
  • Recreational materials – baseball/softball glove, ukulele, books, stationery, etc.
  • Pencil and instrument care items (extra reeds, valve oil, rosin, etc.)
  • Money for camp store and/or trading post (optional)
  • Ear plugs – the dining hall can get a little loud during meal times and evening activities.
  • Portable fan and extra batteries.
  • Portable charger – please note we will not allow charging of cell phones or portable chargers and campers should use devices sparingly.
  • Bag/backpack to carry around camp.
  • Extra padding for cots (the cots are new and extremely firm).
  • Complete concert attire (see below)

CONCERT ATTIRE

Campers will wear “concert black” for the final performance. Tuxedos/formal dresses are not needed; however, we do require campers to wear black, and adhere to a business casual dress code. Campers MUST have their concert attire at camp for the week, as campers will be unavailable to meet with parents/guardians until AFTER the final performance.

  • Black pants or skirt (knee length or below)
  • Black button-down shirt or professional blouse (shirt should cover shoulders)
  • Black dress (knee length or below with shoulder coverage)
  • Black shoes
  • Black tie (optional)
  • Jacket (optional) – if not wearing a jacket, wear a collared black button-down shirt)

IMPORTANT: Campers perform on an elevated stage under VERY bright lights. Black undershirts and slips are highly encouraged.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Do not bring snacks, valuables, or citronella candles to camp. If your camper brings snacks in their luggage, we will return it to the parent/guardian or dispose of it.
  • Concert attire must be packed.
  • Electrical outlets are NOT available for charging cell phones, laptops, mp3 players, etc.
  • Please make sure your name is on all luggage, sleeping bags, music stands, etc.

** Any repairs needed for your instrument should be completed prior to camp! **
